Calacatta Gold is one of the most requested products and we thought an update was long past due.  The ETA as the title states is the end of May – “oh no” I know that is not great news especially if you are reading this in April.  Finding a Calacatta quarry in Itlay is not that difficult but finding an excellent quarry is, we have turned down quite a few suppliers but settled on one which offered the greatest consistancy and continual avaliability.

As an online retailer of natural stone we constantly stay on top of the market changes and conditions.  One of the things we like to do is order samples of our competitors Carrara 3×6” Subway Tile and Hexagon.  We are shocked at the number of competitors that call Turkish marble ‘Carrara’.  The marble is a white marble from Turkey that has some gray veining in it, but 98% of competitors call it ‘Carrara’ in the hope of the consumer buying the inferior stone.

 Carrara Bianco from The Builder Depot selected and cut to the correct thickness.  Now the product is going to the next stage which involves cutting into 3×6″, 6×12″ 12×12″ along with mosaics and trims.  Cutting from the same blocks creates the uniformity needed so our customers can create complete matching installations.

Subway Tiles rectangles are increasing in popularity each year. At first it was the simple introduction of 3×6″ Carrara Subway Tiles as a running brick format pattern on the wall. At the end of 2009 and start of the following year the introduction of 4×8″ and then following that the larger format of 6×12″ gained market share.

Subway tile popularity has been fueled by various design formats – magazines show hotel bathrooms looking like the best that a luxery spa has to offer with 6×12″ Carrara Venato installed in a Herringbone format on the floor. Magazine made sure that with regards to Carrara marble tiles it was no longer ‘hip to be square’.
